Salmon Flies Have Arrived
It is that special time of year on the Madison River. The famed Salmon Flies have arrived and are making a big impact on the fishing. The river has dropped in flow considerably and cleared to the point of being almost completely clear. Now is the time. The big bugs started two days ago and folks are catching fish on dry flies. There are caddis river wide and yellow sallies and goldens but people are hungry for the big salmon fly. If you want to throw the big bug now is the time to get out on the water.
Dry Fly Fishing at its Best
It does not get any better than this. The dry fly fishing is great and will continue to be great for at least the next week or so. Take your pick. Salmon flies, goldens, caddis, PMD, Yellow sallies. The gang is all here and waiting. We have been doing best with a golden or salmon fly and a dropper of a caddis. Remember everyone wants the salmon fly take but more fish will be caught with caddis than salmon flies. Dropper nymphs are deadly right now. We like the yellow sally variety.
Its busy out there
The Madison River is super busy right now and will continue to be. Salmon fly madness increases the amount of boats on the river. Remember everyone is there for the same reason you are and just wants to have fun. Have a little understanding especially at boat ramps. Better yet make some friends with fellow fisherman.
