Fall has arrived big time in the Madison River Valley and the fish can not be happier. The fishing has stayed strong with the cooling waters and changing leaves. The lake run fish from Ennis Lake have started to show on the fall migration to spawn in the cold Madison waters. Lots of streamer activity river wide. Most of the big game is sub surface with streamers and nymphs. We like the sculpin stuff on a slow drift. The pure nymph guys are still getting some fish to eat with the prince stuff and the BWO nymphs.
If your a streamer junkie now is the time to shine. Get your 7 wt out and hit the river. Big fish have moved in and are starting to get aggressive. Throw bunny fur and maribou streamers on a stiff tippet of 2X. We like shelia, mini loop, sculpzilla, and zonkers right now. Soon the big Gallop stuff will shine.
Dry fly guys are finding some success with the remaining hoppers, ants and BWO which are just starting. The may flies are small but a size 18 will take the risers.
Great time to be on the water. Lots of elbow room out there. Stop by the store for all the latest, the best streamers in town and friendly free advice.
