Hoot Owl Regulations are Over on the Madison River
We got word today that Hoot Owl regulations from Eight Mile Ford to Ennis Lake have ended. This section of river is now open all day long. There is still Hoot Owl regulations from Ennis Lake Dam downstream to 3 Forks. The cool weather and longer dark periods have helped lower the water temps and move us into the safe zone.
Fishing Getting Better By the Day
We have been in the dog days of summer and fishing has suffered. Warm water temps , lack of hoppers, and no clouds have made the dry fly bite sporadic . This is all getting better by the day. The water temps are cooling off and some moisture and clouds are in the forecast . If we get a few days with some clouds the dry fly fishing will pick up. We are still doing good fishing a hopper with a caddis behind it. We like the X Caddis. The fish feel comfortable taking this. Ants are gaining popularity by the day. Try a parachute ant in red and black. Nymph fishing is still the best bet to catch some fish. We are having the best luck with small silver nymphs. Lightning bugs, jigs, and rainbow warriors are the name of the game. We have been having some luck with small streamers as well. Zonkers and small sculpin patterns in the. mornings are producing some nice fish.
