Fishing Report Upper Madison River 8-24-2015

A little more water in the river and a week of cooler temps have lowered the water temps and kept the Madison River fishing well.
This week the powers that be at the dam have put a little more water in the river. This really helps and keeps the float guys from grounding out the bottom of river and boats each day. The cooler weather has dropped the water temps in the river considerably and each cool morning helps. This have given us new life and made the fish more active. It is still primarily a sub surface game if you are looking for numbers and bigger fish. The bobber lobbers and streamer junkies are getting it done. The fish are starting to get active on streamers and a dragged bunny fur streamer in olive or natural with a bead head behind has produce more than its share of big fish this week. The dry fly guys are still after it with either attractors, hoppers and ants.

It looks like it will heat up this week. It also looks like it will be clear so the nights will cool off and the slight decrease in daylight is sure helping. As long as we do not get several weeks of warm we should have good fishing continue. We are starting to catch some of the larger browns that have been absent for the past month. Not sure if these are the first wave of lake run fish of the fall or just river raised fish that are just now getting hungry. We should see more and more lake fish in the lower portion of the river from Varney to the Lake each and every week from now till fall. It is just going to get better if your looking for big fish. Stay tuned
