Fishing Report Upper Madison River 6-6-2015

The Madison River is high but the color is good and green especially from Quake to McAtee Bridge. Be very careful floating the Madison River at this level as rocks and other obstructions come up quick. Also, the two low bridges of Wolf Creek and Sun West can be dangerous at this level.
If you decide to get out there and fish you will need to get down and dirty to stay bent. Larger dark bodied stone fly nymphs such as Pats Rubber Leg in Black, Brown or Coffee weighted with an extra split shot and a red or pink worm trailer fished tight to the bank will get the job done. The fish are pushed to the bank with the higher water and following the stone fly nymphs in their migration. At this point most of the catchable fish will be in the first 5 feet of the bank. Larger dark bodied streamers near the bank will also get the job done. All of these should be fished on a stout tippet. We have been fishing 2X and sometimes think that is not strong enough.

Limited dry fly action at this time. If you need to throw dries find the calmer water of side channels. Chubby Chernobyl tank 4,10
