Fishing Report for the Madison River 10-12-24

The River

Currently the Madison River is sitting at 809 CFS at Kirby Ranch and a temp of 50 degrees.   It is 1010 CFS at Varney Bridge and a temp of 50 as well.  The Madison River is in good shape and low and clear. We should get a little more water back into the river this week when the larger ditches that pull water are closed.  This should add a few more CFS to each section.  This is good as getting around in a boat from 8 Mile to Burnt Tree is challenging  at this low level.  Overall the river is fishing well with all the sun we have been seeing.  We are looking for a few days of clouds and fall to improve things.  The weather has been great for the fisherman but the fish are over it and looking for more seasonal weather.  It looks like later in the week we will get a front and produce some moisture and this will turn the fishing on big time.

Streamer

The streamer fishing has been very inconsistent as of late.  This is because of the nice weather and sun.  Lets get a few days of clouds and rain and more seasonal fall weather and we will get some darn good streamer fishing.  Currently in the extended summer we are getting a few to eat the streamer in the morning. Some days olive some days white some days black.  Cycle through the colors until you find one they like that day.  After about 11 in the sun the streamer fishing fades and you might as well throw some nymphs.   Again, this will all change this week with the change in weather.  By Friday we should see some darn good streamer fishing.  Get ready it is coming fast.

Nymph Fishing

Most of the guys are throwing the bobber rigs late in the afternoon. Things like rubber legs, worms and even the yellow egg are starting to produce. Remember white fish are spawning in the river about now.  Eggs are in the soup so fish a small yellow egg.  Other days stone fly stuff and BWO nymphs like the psyco may and military may are getting some fish to eat.  We have been doing better on 4X than thicker even on the nymph rigs.  The water is low and clear and they are looking at things closely right now.

The weather has been great for the fishing with the extended summer type weather.  This looks to change shortly.  It is about ready to get some streamer madness.   I would bet Thursday and Friday this will will be really good .   Lots of stuff on sale in the store right now.  30% Off big dries, fish pond nets and most summer sun shirts.  Stop by and get some good gear at a great price.
