Nate Lacombe
Nate grew up in Western Massachusetts where he started spin fishing at age 4 and fly fishing all over the East Coast by age 13. He started guiding in high school for trout, bass, pike and carp in Massachusetts. Nate came out to Montana in 2019 to go to MSU and eventually become a Montana fishing guide. Once classes went online because of covid he decided to expedite his path to becoming a guide and put schooling on hold.
He worked full time in the fly shop during the 2022 season and trained to be a guide. While he is young, you will not find a better more patient person to spend a day on the water with. He has a deep seated passion for teaching fishing and living the Montana lifestyle. In the winter Nate works in the terrain park at Big Sky Resort.


Wes Peterson
Wes Peterson has been guiding fishermen throughout Montana for the past 17yrs. Wes is great with anglers new to the sport as well as veteran anglers. Wes is an excellent instructor, accomplished angler and the patience that only comes from raising five kids. When not rowing a boat. Wes can be found chasing steelhead and guiding deer/bird hunters in Eastern Montana. Wes has made guiding his life long full time profession and the excellence on the water comes from many years of experience.
John Way
My name is John Way, and I am the owner of The Tackle Shop and the Montana Way Outfitters. I have been guiding in Montana as well as other states since 1995. The passion for showing others this great state is still burning and I love my time on the water with others. I also feel honored and humbled to be included in this list of wonderful guides. All of them are more than just professionals, but close friends and advisors. They are better at their jobs than I am at mine, and I feel lucky to have them as part of our team.


Issac Korman
Isaac Korman, a native of Bend, Oregon, grew up alongside his twin brother, Anders. He discovered his passion for fly fishing at the age of 10, exploring the high cascade lakes and rivers of Central Oregon. Isaac’s passion soon earned him a spot on the USA Youth Fly Fishing Team, where he spent three years competing and traveling across North America.
In 2019, Isaac began his guiding career on the Deschutes River, honing his skills and sharing his love for the sport with others. In 2021, he ventured to Montana, eager to explore its diverse waters and continue guiding.
When he’s not on the river, Isaac enjoys the thrill of the mountains, spending his offseason hunting and skiing. With a promise of laughter and memorable experiences, Isaac is dedicated to ensuring you have an unforgettable day on the water. Issac is great and super fishy. His experience on the USA Youth team make him super technical in his nymph rigs. If you want to learn all about technical nymph fishing Issac is your guy.
Kurt Dehmer
Kurt “Durty Kurty” Dehmer is a 24 year veteran fly fishing, and big game hunting guide. He has a passion for sharing wild country and waterways with anglers of all skill levels and abilities. A sixth generation Montana native, Kurt strives to infuse education, and conservation into every angling adventure. When not between the oars, Kurt can be found with his wife Caroline and son Drake in pursuit of uncommonly good times, and big adventures


James Jim Bob Terry
Jim Bob grew up in northern Georgia and migrated out west shortly after graduating high school. After guide school and two years in the shop, he made the move to a full-time guide. Jim Bob has spent winters guiding back in Georgia and working for Orvis at one of the retail stores. . His southern go-slow style and his passion for fishing the West make him a true up-and-coming all-star. Jim Bob is a never get rattled type of guy. You will have relaxing days and great conversation and meet a bunch of new friendly fish.
FELIPE “NICK” ACOSTA
Felipe, or Nick as everyone calls him, hails from Ennis – guide royalty. His dad was a 30-year veteran guide on the Madison River, and although Nick is young, he has more float trips down the Madison than many guides twice his age. In the winter, Nick heads south with the ducks and works at the family ranch and bird hunting lodge in Mexico. Nick is one of the best guides in Montana and is requested well in advance each year. Everyone loves Nick’s youthful approach and can-do attitude, as well as his ability to find fish.


Ken Stock
Ken started fishing at age 5 and by age 8, he was fly tying and fishing his own flies on his home river in Ogden, Utah, and on yearly trips to the Yellowstone area. In 2000, Ken moved to Bozeman where his wife accepted a position at MSU. In 2007, he quit building custom homes and started guiding full time. He averages over 200 days a year on the water. The thing about Ken is that he is a pure fisherman. While many guides hunt all fall and ski all winter, Ken is still on the river all year long. This dedication makes him one of our most in-demand guides. If you want to learn, Ken is the guide to fish with.
Riley Smith
Riley is a Colorado Boy who moved to Montana to chase his dream of working in the fly fishing industry. He worked his way from summer employee to his current role of Shop Manager. If you call or come by the store most likely you have interacted with Riley. While he is in the store most days making sure everyones trip runs smooth he does venture out on the river from time to time. He spent his winter as the Fishing Director for El Pescador Lodge in Belize gaining international management experience. Riley treats everyone with respect and brings a workman like attitude to everything he does.


Josh Hill
Josh is a Montana kid from Kalispell. He relocated to South West Montana to attend Montana State University and play football for the Bobcats. After graduation he put off adulthood in the traditional form and turned his attention to being a fishing guide. Josh is all over and in fact guided 8 different Montana Rivers last year. We are lucky to have Josh as part of the team during July, August and September. Josh spends his springs guiding on the Missouri River near Craig and is our authority on everything Missouri River. He spends his fall following his yellow lab in search of good bird hunting and staying connected to his beloved Bobcat Football. Josh is a lot of fun to be around and a wonderful fishing guide. Guests rave about his teaching style and relaxed fun atmosphere in the boat. If your looking to spend a day in the boat with Josh on the Madison River book early as he has limited availability during the summer.
James Ligon
Georgia native who grew up fishing the waters of North Georgia. He moved out to Montana with his family to pursue an outdoor lifestyle. He is a hard worker and avid fisherman who enjoys teaching anglers of all skill levels. His easy going southern style and his fish finding ability make him a great guide. If you are looking for a relaxing day on the water only interrupted by angry fish on your line James is the guy for you.


Sean Murphy
Sean is originally from the east coast, was fortunate to discover the Madison Valley early in life due to his father’s passion for the outdoors. Living full-time in Ennis, he has found his own passion: introducing visitors and locals alike to the joys of fly fishing. As a father himself, Sean especially enjoys teaching the next generation of fly fishermen the art and conservation of the sport.
Sean finds happiness on the water, whether it’s hunting for your first trout, the biggest trout, or THAT trout! He is grateful for the life he has and strives to inspire others to find a passion in the outdoors.
Boaz Cheavront
Boaz was born in Northeast Ohio and doesn’t remember when he started fishing, except that he doesn’t remember not fishing. His family moved to Montana at 12, and was blessed grow up a short drive away from the Jefferson river.
Boaz started mowing lawns at a fly fishing lodge at 12. While juggling this summer job, a baseball season and schooling he always found time to fish, riding his bicycle to local ponds, creeks and rivers around Whitehall, MT.He started rowing gear rafts on the Smith River when at 15, and have since run around 30 5 day trips.
At 16 he bought his first drift boat, and had not yet graduated high school when he began guiding.When not guiding, Boaz is probably out fishing and scouting new waters and does not spend many days off the water during the season.
The great part about Boaz is his youthful attitude. He is always game for an adventure and despite his lack of years has the experience of a guide twice his age.
In the offseason he is either hunting, ice fishing, or skiing. He is always planning his next trip to chase anything that lives under water and might eat a feather tied to a hook.


Thomas Bowen
Thomas was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. He skipped his high school graduation to come to Idaho and fish for the summer. Yes, he did graduate. He grew up fishing small mouth and bass and wanted to try his luck out west. Thomas spends his winters with a tool belt building homes as a carpenter. You may know Thomas from the store where he spent all last summer learning the ropes. After guide school he made the move to the guide staff. While he might be the newest member of our guide crew his always learning attitude, easy going style and desire to spend his life in wild places make him perfect for the role. The great part about these young gun fishing guides is their willingness to try new techniques as they are not yet set in their ways. If you are willing to fish outside the traditional box and try something new Thomas might just be perfect for you.
Anders Korman
Anders was born in Central Oregon. He started fishing the local water in Bend at 10 and quickly fell in love with the sport. He started guiding on the Deschutes River at 18. Fishing was a major part of his youth. When he was 16, he made my way onto the US Youth fly fishing team competed with them for three years and was fortunate to travel to many amazing places competing. In 2021 Anders moved to Montana to guide and quickly fell in love with Madison, and many other rivers in our area. In the off-season he enjoy’s skiing and hunting. Here in Montana We’re very fortunate to have so many recreational opportunities. Would love to spend time on the water with you in one of our beautiful offices.
