Dear Friends,
May is a month of change here on the Madison River. The last gasps of old man winter still make his appearance known. The valley floor turns almost neon green and chases the receding snow up the mountain. You are awaken to birds singing outside your window for the first time in months and the prospect of summer is seen more and more each day.
What I most like about May is that the town of Ennis comes to life. Seasonal residents return to town. Cars passing on Main Street are followed by drift boat trailers and have rod vaults on top. A stark contrast to the snow mobile trailers and ski racks of just a month ago. May is the month that Ennis changes from a sleepy cowboy town to a bustling trout town.
Lots of news this month including some really great happenings in Madison Country. It is a great time to be alive in Montana.
Grab a seat and immerse yourself in everything fly fishing, Montana and the Madison River. We have the front seat in the boat ready for you.

May on the Missouri River
|
|
While all the rivers in Montana will be high and muddy during the remainder of May we concentrate on fishing the Missouri River. The Big Mo is the world’s largest spring creek. A tail water by nature the clean consistent flows make for good fishing when most of the other rivers are blown out. We concentrate our efforts near Craig Montana another great trout town. If you are getting the itch and want to bend a rod the big rainbows of the Mo should not be missed. Give us a call at the store and let’s explore the Missouri River.

Salmon Fly!
The biggest hatch of the year is just over a month away. We are getting calls daily asking about when the salmon flies will be hatching on the Madison River and what the water level will be. Our official Tackle Shop Ouija board says June 22 in Ennis and the river will be high but clear. If you have not made your plans to hit this hatch now is the time.

The Prince of the Madison is Back
|
|
After a winter of guiding bird hunts on the family ranch in Mexico and leading 5 Cuba trips for Orvis, our number one guide Nick Acosta “the price of the Madison” has returned to Ennis. His nick name comes from being the son of a legendary Madison River Guide Felipe. Thus he was born into guiding royalty. Nick will spend his summer making guest appearances in the store, but most of his time will be spent doing what he does best guiding folks into great experiences. His ultimate sportsmans lifestyle means he will be back to Mexico and Cuba in the fall. If your interested in spending a day with Nick on the Madison give us a call.
