Dear Friends,

Here we are waist deep in May and staring down the barrel to the best time of the year on the Madison River. June will arrive before you know it and with it comes the warp speed of another summer in Ennis, Right now lots of old friends are calling and booking guide days for the summer and fall ahead, part time residents are arriving in the store to get a fishing license, reconnect with Montana Time, and pick up the all star flies for their next trip. It is always great to see returning residents arrive and increase the population of our little town. Very few towns see the seasonal population swings that we do.

We are also fielding lots of calls about water flow, color, and when will the salmon fly be hatching? There is lots of excitement going into this season. Our snow pack has been a yo-yo all winter. Check one day and we are at 100% a few days of warm weather later and we are down to 88%. We have been seeing a prolonged wet and cool spring which has helped to fill the lake and increase snow pack. This makes us all excited and ready for the season and some warmer weather.

What the summer will bring weather and water wise is anyones guess but we are on the right path as of now. A few new things going on at the Tackle Shop that you might be interested in. Its Almost Salmon Fly Time!

There is no better time of the year to catch a true monster trout on a dry fly than the salmon fly hatch. This hatch usually occurs sometime around the third week of June and proceeds through the first week in July. Every year people from all over the world try and time the hatch and experience this fly fishing phenomenon. If you have hit it right in the past you know what I am talking about and you most likely already have your days booked. The business of the season can not come fast enough during the winter and when we are looking down the train tracks at the ever approaching light it brings up a to do list a mile long. Good friends old and new will soon be in Ennis and we will all bask in the moment like the never ending summer daylight.

We have been here in the same location from 1937 and you can expect the same down home great service, the best products and honest accurate advice.
