It is all about to start here on the Madison River. The flows have tabled off about 2750 cfs at Varney Bridge and you can now see 16 inches into the water. We did a little recon trip and kicked over some rocks at the 8 Mile Access and we found salmon fly and golden nymphs all lined up and ready for the party. Best guess a week before the confetti drops. Things are looking good now for a little float with some large rubber legs and worm hatches. I would not be afraid to drop in at Varney and make a day of it.
If you looking to float the upper part of the river keep the low bridges in mind. My level is 2700 cfs and below to be safe. It is doable above this level but be really careful. Things happen fast and no need getting into a boat reck to catch a few fish. Getting lots of calls recently on when and where the big bugs will arrive. Best guess again a week out. But when it happens you can be the salmon fly madness will begin and the river will be packed to gills with folks. Why not get out now and enjoy the river before all the madness.
Great selection of salmon fly dry and nymphs all ready for the big day.
