On this past Saturday Lat. 45 Adventure Ministries held their first annual fishing derby, fundraiser and banquet here in Ennis. Lat 45 is a local non profit that is dedicated to taking kids on no cost multi day back packing trips. They feel that by getting kids away from modern conveniences and expose them to the rigors of a mult day trip that they will grow and become closer to christ. In fact this is direct from them. ” At Lat 45 we believe that getting kids into the outdoors, and away from all the modern conveniences of life, will allow them to be more open to receive the good news God has given everyone. Participants will be challenged physically, mentally, as well as spiritually and develop an appreciation for wilderness and conservation.”
Lat 45 was born a few short years ago and was the brain child of founders Ryan Brown and Chris Armstrong. These guys successfully developed a non profit, sought out at risk kids as well as secured the funding to take them on the trips cost free and provide all the gear needed. Their first year they ran 6 trips with groups and last year they helped almost 60 kids.
The fun fishing derby gave prizes for best picture, most fly’s lost and best tangle and was a really fun event for all involved. All the prizes as well as the food that was catered by Alley Bistro was donated by local merchants.
This is a great organization doing really great work. We are behind them and look forward to helping them in any way we can. Regardless of your personal beliefs on faith these guys are making a difference in kids lives. Check out the website www.lat45.org and give them your support. Now is the time to invest in our kids if we care about the future. These are one of the very few that are investing in kids at a grassroots level and making a huge difference.
They plan to do the fishing derby next year and if your around Ennis please plan to attend.
