Dear Friends,

The summer solstice has come, there are salmon flies hatching on the river and all is good in cultural epicenter of trout.   The hum of town increases each day with more and more people showing up to experience and connect with our beautiful river and landscape.

Because of our huge snow pack and wet spring the entire valley shines of emerald green.  The river is higher than many expected but still fishable and the water makes fish happy.  There is still remnants  of winter snows on the peaks and the lake that feeds the valley is completely full and ready for business.

Our sleepy little western town in the winter is now transformed into a bustling tourist and fisherman center for the season.  The ebb and flow on how this town and the people who call it home transform themselves every year is amazing.  Ennis has something for everyone, and one heck of a place to wake each morning.  Each visitor  that comes is looking to connect to something different.  The river, fish, mountains, western lifestyle, or just the idea of Montana.  This is a powerful calling to connect to something bigger or different than what you know and are familiar  with.  We feel blessed to be a small part of the summer Montana ritual that has happened for almost a hundred years.

Lots of great fishing and fun times to be had ahead of us.  We look forward to seeing all of you.

Whitefish Photo Contest
We love whitefish and do not think they get the respect they deserve.   So,  we are celebrating the mighty whitey with a photo contest.  Send us your best whitefish photo and you will be entered to win great prizes.  The judging will be done at the Fly Fishing Festival on Labor Day Weekend in Ennis.  Categories include Best Overall, Whitefish Love ( G Rated ), and most Humorous .  Remember Keep them Wet is the name of the game and all fish must be handles ethically as we do not want to harm these great fish.

Salmon Fly Time on the Madison River

Salmon Fly Fever has Arrived
The big bugs of summer have arrived.  The time every fisherman waits for is upon us.  Artic length days, large fish eating dry flies, and sleep deprived fisherman are the earmarks of the salmon fly hatch.  Those who hit this hatch perfectly experience the dry fly fishing event of their life.   Each year there are only a few days where the fish are really keyed in, hungry and not stuffed with the Ceaser’s Palace style endless buffet.  When those days come in the next three weeks is anyones guess. What we know is that those precious few days will arrive shortly.

Free Fly Fishing

Free Fly Fishing Lessons
We are again doing our super popular Fly Fishing 101 three days a week. This is completely free.  Just show up at the store on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday at 10 am.  We believe by introducing as many people as possible to this great sport we are making the world a better place.   You will learn how to cast, a few knots and what flies to fish.  If your curious about fly fishing and wanted to try it this is your opportunity .  Can’t make one of our scheduled classes?   Just give us a call and we can set one up to fit your schedule.

 Fishing Reports
