Madison river fishing report 10-2-2017

The brown trout fishing on the Madison river has really started to turn on. We are seeing more and more browns in the net as they start their spawning process. as the spawn continues we will see more fish move out of the lakes and start their journey up river. Valley garden will be one of the best places for wade anglers to have a chance at one of these “run up” fish and floating anglers should concentrate there time from Varney bridge to Ennis lake. There are also plenty of big resident browns throughout the upper Madison so don’t be afraid to fish the other sections also. The section of the Madison between Quake lake and Hebgen dam has been fishing well but expect quite a but of fishing pressure there. There are some Blue wing olives and midges out there but your best bet right now would be to throw streamers and nymphs. October fishing weather can be down right miserable at times but this could be the time to catch that fish of a lifetime so dress in layers bring a great rain coat, pack some coffee and go fishing.
