As I write this there is a light snow falling on an almost deserted Main Street in Ennis. The rowing callouses on my hand are dissoving almost as quickly as the Chaco tan lines of my feet both of which will not be added to for several months. Santas sleigh is almost on top of us and the new year is right around the corner keeping everyone busy. Having more dark than light keeps us in front of the wood stove more than in the sunshine and the daily exercise is the gym and the dreaded treadmill not the driftboat. Seasonality is part of life in Montana and this job. The warmth of the memories of this past season are still burning and the candle light out front is the start of a new season just 4 months away.

If you were lucky enough to be in Montana fishing this past year you know that is was a darn good year. If you were not lucky enough check out our end of season blog 2015 Season Review All and all it was a great year to be in Montana and there are many good things to come in 2016.

Lots of folks are calling and wondering about 2016 and the best time to fish, what the water will do and when they should come. It is way to early to make a prediction right now. We are strapped with a El Nino winter and what that brings I am not sure. I do know that April and October always stand out as safe bets and great fishing. We will see what the next few months bring for snowfall and then have a better idea.

Some big announcements coming in 2016 from us but we will keep these close to our vest for a while longer. Stay tuned.

When I take a fishing or hunting trip out of area , at the time I am consumed with the on the ground aspect of things. How do I catch more fish, where are the elk, what is the weather going to do, how many fish did I catch. But, when I look back and remember these trips I can hardly recall the fish. What I most remember is the people I was with and the feelings I had. The people around you are what make the difference in fishing as in life. We have been really fortunate to have some great people around us and in our life. Most of which are on these adventures with us. And even though they are not family they are closer than brothers. We laugh, cry, bleed and get involved with each other’s success and failures.

In this season of giving we are making a special point to be with these people. Family and good friends are at the heart of what makes fishing trips, life and the holidays all the more special. This holiday season I want to send out a big bag of appreciation to all those great people in our life both near and far.
