Fishing Report for the Madison River in Montana 9-7-2019

The weather took a real turn from the summer, warm and sunshine we have come to love. With the sun and warm was the epic hopper and ant fishing. The big talk around town is will that continue? Looks like it will stay cooler and with some rain for at least the next week. Hoppers are not done yet. The fish know they are there and will continue to look for them. The hoppers are not dead just a little cold so any sunny afternoon going forward they will jump around and end up as trout food. Continue fishing the foam stuff in the afternoons and you will be rewarded.

This super soaking rain brings the worms back out and we have been having a bunch of luck lately with a san juan as a dropper or nymphed. The rain pushes the worms out of the holes and into the river and the fish like worms and we like fish. Pretty simple.

Other nymphs are working as well. Green pats rubber leg along with all sorts of prince nymphs. We like the purple sparkle prince as of late. If you want to nymph you will be rewarded. Streamers are coming into their own especially in the morning and if it gets stromy. Slinky stuff like mini loops, sculpin the one and trash cans are the guides choice. Do not hesitate to throw something with some flash like a sparkle minnow. Fish like disco and its about time to party. The streamer fishing will only get better and better as we roll along.

Lots to be excited about. Less folks on the river, more in the mountains chasing singing elk means more fish for me and you. Stop by the store as we have the most recent intel on river conditions. Lots of good stuff on sale this time of year. Come check out the new Orvis Pro Wader. The best, most comfortable most puncture resistant wader on the market.

As always the coffee and the friendly advice are always free. Come see us.
