Madison River fishing report 3-22-18

Well we are waste deep into the first week of spring. The fishing on the Madison River here near Ennis has been pretty good. Most of the fishing access site and boat launches are in good condition with the exception of Lyons and Pallisades which are both still snowed in. There are a lot of midges coming off but there hasn’t been a lot of fish looking up. Dry fly fishing has been good around Valley Garden and the Reynolds pass areas when the wind is calm. Nymphing in the afternoons will be the most productive way to put fish in the net.

Dries

griffith gnats , para midge and small purple haze and Adams should do the trick

Nymphs

zebra midges, pheasant tails, stonefly nymphs like pat’s rubber legs, prince nymphs and twenty incher’s along with san Juan/ wire worms and egg patterns like the crystal egg are all catching fish right now

Streamers

small streamers like sheila’s, trevor sculpins and zonkers and large streamers like boogie man and dungeons will likely produce a strike. Dead drifting is working better then stripping right now
