Madison River Fishing Report for 7-22-2017

The weekend has arrived and it’s time to get out and fish the Madison river. The fishing is still going strong even with the warmer temperatures and we have seen some truly nice fish being caught. With the warm temperatures the best times to fish are in the mornings and in the evenings. PMD’s, yellow sallies and caddis are still flying around along with the nocturnal golden stone, keeping the dry fly anglers busy all morning . We are also starting to see some grasshoppers along the banks so it’s time to start thinking about fishing terrestrials. Nymphing as always has been very productive, look for those deeper spots and use a dry dropper or indicator rig to catch those fish that don’t want to come up for a dry fly. There has also been reports of spruce moths on the lower river below Ennis Lake dam The lower Madison river from below Ennis lake dam to the mouth is on “Hoot Owl” restrictions though meaning No Fishing from 2pm till midnight.
