Fishing Report for the Madison River in Montana 7-23-2019

The Madison is firing on all cylinders right now. There are bugs in numbers on every stretch of the river and all the late rains have helped keep the river temperatures down. Fish are looking up throughout the entirety of the day; therefore, now is as good of time as any to fish a single dry. We are seeing some terrestrials and hoppers out and about with some larger fish sipping ants. Caddis of all colors are still the food of choice for most fish, throwing a darker colored micro chubby with a caddis emerger has been the go-to setup as of late. There are still golden stones out and about up high and quite a few yellow sallies coming of from town all the way up to the lakes. Nymphing has been great too, lightning bugs and pheasant tails have been picking up fish in numbers as well as caddis pupae and iron sallies. Fish have been stacking up in mid river shelf's so don’t be afraid to get out deep in the middle. Streamer fishing has been off and on based on the weather with more success coming on cloudier and cooler days.
