It is all about to start here on the Madison River. Our snowpack is piling up the river is looking good and the fishing is just around the corner. In the next month we will be busy with spring fishing, a hosted trip to Belize with some great friends, new inventory arriving each day and the work up to the busy season. There will be some great fishing right around the corner both on the Madison River as well as in the Missoula area with the skwala hatch.

Many times in the past we have been concerned with all the stuff life throws at us and we have not solely concentrated on fun. The look of pure joy on the young lady face above reminds us that there is more to fishing than just numbers and size. It is enjoying the journey and appreciating each moment and fish. The theme of our season is have more fun than anyone else on the river.

Looking Good!

To all of you who did the snow dance for us last month Thank You. We got a bunch of storms and now the Madison and in fact most of Western Montana are looking good. The Madison River is now at 109% of average snowpack for this time of year. There is still lots of snow months left for the high country and lets keep it coming to ensure a good water year.

Guide Bill Denruyter

Bill grew up in the Green Bay Wisconsin area but left after high school to follow his dream of being a guide in the west. We first met and hired Bill almost 12 years ago as a employee fishing guide on the Blackfoot River. He has been guiding full time from that point on both on the rivers and in the mountains for Elk and Deer. Bill has been our main Missoula Area guide for the past several years. This year he is marrying a local girl and made the full time move to Ennis. We are more than excited to add Bill to our stable of full time professional guides. Bill or as we refer to him “The Last Best Bill” is a patient guide on the water with a serious fishy streak. If he is not guiding Bill is in constant motion either chasing elk, floating, looking for shed antlers or snowmobiling.

The season is about to get going and friends old and new will make their annual pilgrimage to the cultural epicenter of Trout in Montana Ennis. We are excited to see everyone and spend more time on the river than off it. A wise man once told me “Success in life is not just the amount of time doing what you love it is more about how little time you need to do what you hate”. By this axiom the Tackle Shop family is very successful. We love what we do and where we are blessed to do it. I hope is shows in everything we do.
