June Madison River Montana Newsletter

Dear Friends,
June has arrived and we are full steam ahead.   Town is getting that summer Buzz that we love, the weather is improving by the day, and shorts and sandals are now the norm.   We love summer and it shows.

Our seasonal staff has arrived and they are ready to help you in the store.  Next time your in town stop by and say Hi to James and Austin.   Take a look at their bio’s below.   Our guides are chomping at the bit to be pulling oars each day and the river, while now very high, is showing signs that this might just be a good summer for fishing.

If your a traveling fly fisherman like we are, check out the dates for our Belize Extravaganza this year.   This will be the third year of this great trip and it gets better by the year.

Lots going on here in Ennis for the summer and we are looking forward to seeing everyone in the Trout Capital of Montana.

Fish Belize with Us this Winter!

We will be again hosting trips to Belize this winter in search of Tarpon, Permit, Bonefish, and a great time. This will be our third year hosting trips to the extravagant El Pescador lodge.  El Pescador won the Orvis International Lodge of the Year honor for the second time this past April.

Madison River News

With all this moisture Summer is going to be Great
As of June 3 we still have 107% of normal for this time of year snow pack in the mountains.  This high elevation snow will continue to melt out and provide clear, cold water all summer to the Mother Madison.  It might just be the summer to fish the Maddy.

When will they be here?

Salmon Fly!
The biggest hatch of the year and christmas for trout fisherman is on the horizon.  Bets are being taken about when the first bugs will show up.  My money is on June 23 at the Ennis Bridge.  This is by far your best chance to catch a trophy trout on a large dry fly.   If you have ever hit the salmon flies right the day will be forever etched in your memory.  These bugs are literally 3 inches long and are floating T-Bones for hungry fish.  If your thinking of rolling the dice and making a pilgrimage to salmon fly and trout nirvana give us a call as it is a busy time of year and your favorite guides schedule is getting full.

Meet the new guys at the store
This summer the Tackle Shop introduced two new faces to Ennis. Austin Stowell and James Terry will be in the shop all summer to help with any of your fly-fishing needs as well as giving some sub-par fishing advice.
James Terry hails from a small town named White, located in northern Georgia. His passion lies in small stream fishing for elusive Brook Trout. James fell in love with Montana last year while he spent a month perfecting the trout bum lifestyle, fishing the Bighorn, Boulder, and Yellowstone River. James’s middle name is Robert so when you come into the shop make sure you give “Jim Bob” a shoutout.
Austin Stowell is the other new hire for the summer season. Austin is a senior at Montana State University in Bozeman, he studies Photography and Small Business Management. While being a full time shop employee he will also be in charge of all tackle shop media that you will see.
Apart from John, Justin, and Nick keep an eye out for James and Austin and make sure to say hi when you visit the shop.

Before you hit the River check out our Fishing Reports
If your going to hit the river this summer  drop by the cyber fly shop prior to heading out.  We update the fishing report twice a week during the season and include hatches, flows, suggested dries, nymphs, and streamers.  We get our information daily from our guides and staff who are on the river so know it is accurate.
