Salmon flies are almost here and any day could be the day. We are thinking the full hatch will begin on the 25 or 26. We should have some good dry fly fishing shortly after that. The big bugs are about to join the party. The river is in great shape and flows are 1830 at Varney and 1180 at Kirby. The thing we need to keep watch of is the water temps. As soon as it hits say 54 we are game on.
Caddis fishing in the evenings on dry has been great recently and will only get better as we move forward. Small green emergers soft hackles in the late afternoon have been killer and the dry fly fishing in the evenings starting about 6 pm.
Folks are getting it done all day long with the typical rubber leg stone fly stuff and prince nymph variation trailers under a bobber. This will continue. Streamer guys are getting less fish but some really good ones. If you want a big fish throw some meat right now and stick with it.
It is a great time to be on the Madison with some of the best fishing of the season right around the corner. Hang on folks it is going to get western around here.
