Good weather is on the horizon and the Madison River is in Go Mode. Good fishing can be had river wide. Most of the ramps are open with the exception of the Ennis Town and Valley Garden. These will still be a while. Think mid-May for these.
Mayflies are on the menu river wide. BWO are showing up. Think warm afternoons with cloud cover and no wind for the epic dry fly fishing. Look in the slicks behind rocks and in the inside curves. Skwala are also around so throw the big bug with a dropper in the afternoon especially near the banks in the soft stuff.
Nymph guys are still banging away with stone fly stuff, eggs, worms and now prince nymphs, soft hackle PT, and lightning bugs. Remember the fish are spawning right now and if you see redds please back off and let them do their thing. The future of the river is in those fishes fins
Streamer guys are getting busy with lots of hook ups especially on slow moving sculpins patterns. Keep them slow and low and you might just find a dinosaur
Good spring like weather in the long range forcast so fishing should get better by the day. We really need a little heat to hopefully raise the water temps a few degrees. Right now the best fishing is mid afternoon till about 6 in the evening. Hey it is getting dark later stay on the water and get late drinks and bar food for dinner. We like the burgers and fries at the McAllister Inn. Best bar food in the Ennis area.
Stop by the store and check out the new bugs, gear and clothing. Great deals daily. Also, spring special guide trips are happening till the end of the month. A full day for two people, all the gear needed and a hot lunch only $400. Get it while it lasts.
