The continued spring like weather brings great fishing to the Madison River. The fish are happy and the water is cold so it is a good time to be a fisherman in Montana. Nymphing will keep the rod bent most of the day. Standard spring fare of stone flies, worms, BWO nymphs and eggs will keep you into fish. More and more skwalas are showing up and fishing a single dry fly chubby all day is now an option. Good reports river wide of dry fly eats and good fishing all afternoon. Streamers are on the upswing as well. Throw some meat you might just catch the fish of the year.
The river is in good shape river wide and all the boat ramps are now open. Lots of traffic down near town lately with most people fishing from Varney to Valley garden. Not July traffic by any means but not pure solitude as well. Still lots of room to get out and fish. In fact some of the flats are getting little traffic. Lots of fish still spawning river wide. If you see spawning beds please do not fish or walk over them.
It does not get any better than this for spring fishing. Get out and make some flies soggy.
