Fishing Report for the Madison River 6-9-2020

The river is on the drop and good fishing on the Madison River is right around the corner. Yes you can go out right now and pick the pockets for a few fish but widespread good fishing on the Madison is close. The river is on the way down. Two reasons. First the discharge out of the dam has decreased. They upped discharge to get the mandated flushing flow. Now that is over discharge should decrease every day and hopes of filling lake for summer water. The second is snow melt. We lost a bunch of our snow with the 80 degree temps last week. The snow left is completely issothermic and will melt out fast. This includes the dump we got the past few days.
Give the river one more day and things will be game on . For those floaters remember that the bridges above Pallisades are dangerous during high flows. Our number is 2700cfs at Kirby. Anything above that and we will not go. Give it a few days.
Once it is game on again stone flies, streamers and worms will be the thing to fish. Lots of weight and hit the soft spots. Salmon flies are still a week or more like 10 days away. Big hole should get going this week.
top by the store for the latest in fishing gear. Good conversation, gear, flies and the advice is like the coffee always free, strong and will get you motivated. The world is a mess go fishing.
