Madison River Fishing Report 3-16-18

The Madison River has been fishing well this week. We have experienced some great floating opportunities from Varney bridge to Town. Midges and worms seem to be the staples for the fishes diet right now but Skwalla nymphs and Blue wing olive patterns are also starting to get some action. With the return of some colder days this weekend I would concentrate fishing to the afternoon when water temps are at their highest. We have seen some good midge hatches but not a lot of fish looking up. The best dry fly action still remains around the Reynolds Pass area and below Ennis Lake. Between the lakes still remains very snowy but if you can make the trek in the fishing has been pretty good.

Dries

midges- Griffith gnats, para midge and rs2’s
Blue wing olives – Snow shoe emergers, Purple haze , Para BWO’s

Nymphs

Zebra midges ( black and red), Pheasant tails, Prince nymphs, Pats rubber legs , San Juan worms (pink and red), Neo twenty incher, Crystal meth egg patterns

Streamers

Zonkers, Sheila’s, flash fry and Trevors are all working right now. for you big junk throwers try a dungeon or boogie man in green or gray.
