Beaverhead River Fly Fishing

Below Clark Canyon Dam, the Beaverhead River becomes a tailwater river and holds the largest concentration of large brown trout per mile than anywhere in Montana. The banks are lined with willows making casting difficult, so floating is the best option. Be careful wading the Beaverhead as the area is known for its large concentration of rattlesnakes.

    Best Time to Fly

The section from Clark Canyon Dam downstream to Grasshopper Creek is closed until early May and once it opens it can be busy, but it’s worth it. In mid-June through early August, the PMD hatch overlaps with caddis and small Yellow Sallies stoneflies.
