Fly SelectionTry small nymphs in the open sections, and BWO's if you see them. Good fishing has been reported. The Ruby is open in areas below the dam, and nymphing is good. BWO hatches have been reported. With all the snow, there will be plenty of water this season. Nymphs and Midges are working well in open stretches.Spring fishing has arrived, and nymphing with Pat's Brown Rubber Legs and San Juan Worm dropper is producing numerous large fish. Baetis hatch is bringing fish up to the surface.Small Nymphs and Emergers are producing fish.
Water ConditionsThe river is open from Pipe Organ bridge downstream.Limited access below the dam, but plenty or water and action.Sections of the river are now floatable, and with snowpacks above normal, the river should be in good shape this year. The Madison from McAtee Bridge to Ennis bridge is now open and accessible to wade and drift boat fishing. The Lower Madison is open and producing fish.
Fishing TipsWarmer weather predicted, so start looking for action on Dries !Stick with small nymphs on this river for good fishing.Look for afternoon Baetis, but small nymphs and midges are working well.Try the new Helios rod from Orvis; truly the world's lightest fly rod.
