Destination Fly Fishing- Montana and Yellowstone Park
There are only two reasons we would ever want to fish outside the Madison River area. It expands our fly fishing season and it puts our feet in new water and meet some new trout. For those reasons we have added our new exciting destination fishing expeditions. This year we will catch the Skwala hatch on the Bitterroot River and the early season hatches on the Missouri River. We will be on the Smith River for a special five day guided float and fishing expedition and throughout the summer we will offer Montana Sampler trips for the fly fisherman who likes to roam. Check out the exciting opportunities below.
Skwala Time! We will be spending a majority of our March and April in the Bitterroot River area chasing the Skwala hatch. We have been guiding on the Bitterroot River and Clark Fork River during the Skwala hatch for 15 years. This early stonefly (size 10) is your one opportunity to catch the largest trout in the river. After a cold winter of not eating much the Skwala Stonefly, along with its smaller cousin the Namora and Baetis mayflys emerge mid March to late April and bring all the fish to the surface. This first major hatch of the year can produce some of the best trout fishing of your entire year. Even if the mountains are covered in snow the Bitterroot River is generally low, clear and fishable. If you are itching to get out west early in the year this is a great choice. Come join us and meet some of the Bitterroot's finest trout. Missoula is our home away from home for this spring adventure.

The Mighty Mo Holter Dam, on the Missouri River, creates one of the largest tail water fisheries in Montana. This tail water produces some of the highest trout numbers and size of fish anywhere in the state. In April and May the mighty Missouri comes into its own. The Baetis Mayfly hatch produces great nymphing and some spectacular early season days of casting small dries to sipping picky fish in clean water. If you ever wanted to try the Missouri this is the time to do it. Great fishing in uncrowded conditions. Our home base on the Missouri River is Craig, Montana. The Montana Sampler If you have an itching to see new water and meet new fish the Montana Sampler is just for you. Montana is such a big state and there is just so much water to fish it can be a little intimidating. The Montana Sampler makes it easy. You will be on a hosted fishing trip and will spend your time fishing new and exciting water under the direction of your fishing host / instructor. You will experience float fishing as well as wade fishing during your time on the water. Our destination fishing Montana Sampler will headquarter out of Missoula, Mt. You will find great fishing and some of the lesser known "jewels" of Montana. Included is the Blackfoot River, made famous by the movie "The River Runs Through It".
You can choose between a 3 or 5 day Montana Sampler package. The 3 day consists of 2 days wade fishing and 1 day float fishing. The 5 day package consists of 3 days wade fishing and 2 days float fishing. Included are guides, transportation, lunch, and drinks for your day of fishing. Slough Creek Slough Creek is a jewel of Yellowstone National Park. Rising in the Beartooth range in southwest Montana, Slough Creek flows south and west entering Yellowstone Park. Slough Creek runs for approximately 16 miles before joining the Lamar River and soon thereafter becoming a part of the Yellowstone River. There are only two points where Slough Creek can be accessed by vehicle, creating a remote fishing environment in the nation's largest national park. This fishing trip is truly a remote, wilderness setting, fishing for wild, native cutthroat trout. You will be taken horseback from the trailhead to the upper meadow where your guides will pitch your camp for the next 3 night's stay. Included are your fly fishing terminal tackle, all meals, horses and camp. You will need to bring your personal gear. We work with Adventures Outfitting to bring you this adventure.
