Fly Fishing Instruction-A fly fishing school just for you!

Have you ever wondered "How in the world do I ever get started fly fishing?" or said to yourself, "I just can't seem to catch on to the tricks of catching trout"?  If so, The Tackle Shop fly fishing school may be just the answer.  We are focused on fly fishing for trout and teaching you the skills you need to become a successful fly fisherman.

We have a very different philosophy on the best way for you to become a better fly fisherman. If you are trying to learn the sport of fly fishing or improve your skill set, the traditional school setting is not the best way to use your time.  We think your time is valuable and should be spent building on your current knowledge base and skill set, not the most novice fisherman of the group.

Our fly fishing school is a very focused and individualized approach. We will have no more than 2 fishermen per instructor and will begin at your current level and advance you as far as possible with the time allowed.  We won't take your time with tasks you already know and skills you have already mastered.  We will focus on the skills that will make you more successful.

Our team of instructors are knowledgeable and experienced fly fishing instructors. They provide a great learning environment and give you the tools you need to become an accomplished fly fisherman. Due to the skills required, we have chosen only a few instructors whom we feel are qualified for this level of individual instruction.  Their availability is limited and advanced booking is mandatory.

Private Fly Fishing Instruction
You will begin by meeting with your instructor, to establish your current knowledge base and skill set, and begin your learning adventure.  We will cover tackle, entomology, basic knot tying, casting, fly selection, reading the water, presentation, and handling you catch.  Your instruction will include lunch, drinks, and transportation.  You will be responsible for all terminal tackle and your license.

Tailor your instruction to meet your desired outcome by choosing from the following options.

Single Day Fly Fishing School
You can expect that the single day instruction will get you through the basics of tackle, entomology, knot tying, and casting. Most commonly, we will spend the afternoon on the water fishing. The single day instruction will give you the foundation you need to get started or move you to the next level of your fly fishing expertise.

Two Day Fly Fishing School
This option is a more complete approach and will return you increased benefits for your time invested. After covering the basics on day one we will get down to refining your fly fishing skills.  The second day will be spent on the water learning fly selection, presentation, and more advanced fishing techniques. We recommend the two day instruction as the best and most complete learning experience.

Add an additional day and take a guided float trip on the Madison River to use your new skills and enjoy fishing from the perspective of a drift boat.

Contact Us to discuss which options best fit your needs.
